Gift #1: Self Care.
For the next twelve blogs we are going to look at my twelve gifts of Christmas. Some of these are gifts to give ourselves, some are gifts to others, some are gifts we receive and some are gifts to the planet. The gift at the top of my list is the gift of self care.
“Self-care is not selfish. You cannot serve from an empty vessel.”Eleanor Brownn
So there is shopping, gift buying, gift wrapping, food planning and preparation, decorating, cards to send, people to contact and touch base with before the big day, cleaning, gardening and if visitors are coming, there’s rooms to prepare. And, I love it all! But there is a lot to do. Hubby tells me to chill and relax and I am getting better at that but as I tell him, some things just have to be done or Santa simply won’t come.
GO PLACIDLY amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. … Desiderata Poem · Max Ehrmann
In among all this activity it is easy to forget that this whole season is meant to be joyful. There must be time to go placidly… and remember what peace there may be in silence.

“Self-care is never a selfish act – it is simply good stewardship of the only gift I have, the gift I was put on earth to offer others. Anytime we can listen to true self and give the care it requires, we do it not only for ourselves, but for the many others whose lives we touch.”
― Parker Palmer

So, Merry Self Care. It is very important. The busier you are the more essential it is.
