Inspiration This is the final poem in this collection of creation and nature. For the next set of poems we will move onto another theme. Today’s poem is for trees; Gum trees actually because they are such an Australian icon. However, all trees are magnificent and hold great importance, purpose and value in the creation. It is a shame that we are so quick to cut them down, ruin natural habitats and count as little value all the benefits a tree adds to the greater good of humans. I love Kahil Gibran’s poetry and I love his following quote about trees. “Trees are poems that the earth writes upon the sky.” So here is my Poem for Trees.
Theme Creation and Nature.
A Poem for Trees.
Mighty, mighty gum tree,
Standing so majestically,
For a hundred years or more,
Could you but speak and tell,
Of all the things you saw,
Fire, flood and drought,
The seasons' endless turnabout.
You're a home for the birds,
And the koala too,
Shaded rest for the kangaroo,
As you raise your arms to the heavens high,
You purify the air so that we don't die,
You accept the full heat of the noontide day,
While under you in peace I would stay.
And I feel the energy you possess,
Your strength, your power, your wonderfulness,
I turn to give you a gentle caress,
And mourn for man who in his vanity,
Has dulled his senses to the wonder of a tree,
In arrogance he cannot see,
This tree is important; just as is he.

Very nicely put Estelle! You reminded me of our big gum tree.
