Inspiration: Today’s poem “101 Excuses” hits on a subject which I’m sure we are all familiar with. People make excuses for lots of things, even if those excuses are ill founded and even if they never have any intention of changing behaviour so that there is no need for the same old excuse. The purpose of life is to grow – to grow up and be responsible for one’s attitudes, words and actions. There comes a time when excuses just won’t cut it anymore. It really is quite liberating when we come to understand this.
Theme: Relationships.
101 Excuses.
Excuses, excuses for many a year,
Have kept me tied,
And you have been using them,
To take me for a ride.
Excuses, excuses, 101 excuses,
Avoiding the issues, not facing the truth,
But now I know you have lied,
Your excuses are really just abuses.
Excuses, excuses for this and that,
Finding an excuse for everything,
Really-
Just being a rat.
Excuses, excuses, I have had them up my ear,
So now, let me make it very clear,
I will no longer be chained to you by fear,
We are parting company, my dear.
Excuses, excuses, I don’t have a single one,
But I am being very reasonable when all is said and done,
Your excuses? You can keep them all,
Maybe someone else for them will fall.
As for me, there must somewhere be,
Someone who will respect and treat me honestly,
For your lies, neglect and abuse,
There is simply no excuse.
